Police are on scene in Hamilton’s east end after a U-Haul crashed into a tree and a fence Tuesday morning.
Officers said this happened around 2:30 a.m. when they tried to stop the stolen truck in the area of Britannia Avenue, near Kenilworth Avenue and Barton Street.
The K9 unit was used to track down the driver who fled on foot but detectives weren’t able to locate them.
Doorbell footage shows the moment the truck comes barreling down the street going so fast that it ripped out a tree in the process.
There is damage to Andrew Warburton Memorial Park, which is where the truck drove through as it was trying to flee police.
The truck came to a stop when it hit a neighbours fence.
Police believe the U-Haul truck was involved in a theft on the Mountain yesterday evening.
One man saw the whole thing and describes the chaos. He said he could see the U-Haul driving through the nearby park.
A U-Haul manager is on scene trying to figure out where the vehicle was stolen from.
There are no injuries or road closures reported.
