European Parliament to set up antenna office in Ottawa

The European Parliament says it will set up an antenna office in Ottawa.

A spokesperson says discussions around the parliament’s physical presence in Canada trace back to the G7 summit in Kananaskis, Alta., last summer.

“It is not only for economy or industry, but also for the values we share and security, strategic issues, defence,” said Delphine Colard, European Parliament spokesperson. “So I think it’s just a translation into facilitating offices in Ottawa to structure better the parliamentary relations.”

The implementation of the new antenna office will take place in the coming days, including the appointment of the head of office.

Prime Minister Mark Carney will officially make the announcement when he addresses the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France.
