About 35 members of the University of Western Ontario’s volleyball teams are ok after their bus caught fire on the 401 near Ingersoll.

The driver noticed smoke at about 8pm Sunday and managed to get it off the highway before it burst into flames.

The bus was carrying both the men’s and women’s teams back from Toronto.

Firefighters from Southwest Oxford extinguished the fire but the bus was a total loss.

The bus driver was taken to Ingersoll hospital with minor injuries.

The assistant coach commented that there were laptops, shoes, study notes, keys to players’ homes, and team jerseys lost in the fire.

A second bus transported the teams back to campus later in the evening.
