Ben Loewith, whose grandfather bought the farm back in 1947, co-owns the multi-generational farm with his father and uncle and says now more than ever, it’s important for people to learn where the food we eat is coming from.
“There’s something nice about getting to show the complete journey. From the calves being born, to how the animals are raised, to how their fed, milked, right over from how the milk is bottled, to how the cheese curds are made, so it’s nice to get to complete the loop on the narrative.”
Visitors to the Powerline Road farm were able to tour the farm, get up close and personal with the nearly 1000 bovines on sight, and speak with farmers to answer questions about every step of the operation.
Visitors were also treated to some tasty treats including homemade hot chocolate milk from milk made on the farm and Johnny Blonde poutine with freshly made curds.
Loewith said, “I hope they take away an understanding of the level of care that farmers put into raising and the daily needs of their animals. It really is a passion for those who are in the industry.”
In addition to their annual open house, the farm also hosts weekly tours on Saturday which can be booked ahead of time on their website.
