Hamilton police’s longest serving police dog, Jake, has died
Hamilton’s longest serving police dog, Jake, died Tuesday morning after ten years of working with Hamilton police services.
Const. Kevin Willson with the Hamilton police released a statement outlining Jake’s life, and expressing the love and happiness working with the dog made him.
The statement reads that Jake died of cancer and passed just before noon.
Jake retired in January after helping recover 63 guns and over $500,000 in his career as a police dog.
Most police dogs work five to seven years before retiring.

At Jake’s retirement, his handler and partner Const. Willson told CHCH news he was the brains and the talent of their team – joking that if Jake could have typed reports and driven a vehicle, he’d be back on patrol.
Hamilton police posted on X Wednesday at around 2 p.m. that Jake showed “unmatched courage and loyalty” when working to protect and serve Hamilton communities.
