Mississauga man charged after series of thefts in Hamilton, Halton, Niagara regions

Peel police have charged a Mississauga man in connection with a series of organized retail thefts across Halton, Hamilton and Niagara regions.

Officers launched an investigation in April that targeted a man believed to be responsible for multiple thefts of clothing and accessories from major retailers across the Greater Toronto Area and other parts of Ontario.

Investigators linked the man to at least 38 theft-related incidents across Halton, Hamilton, Niagara, Durham, Peel and York regions.

In June, 49-year-old Anthony Orlando Monteith of Mississauga was arrested and charged with the following offences:

• Theft Under $5,000 (24 counts)
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (14 counts)

After his arrest, search warrants were carried out at residences in Welland and Mississauga where authorities recovered more than $35,000 worth of stolen clothing, cosmetics and personal accessories.

The investigation into offences where Monteith may be a suspect continues. Officers say they anticipate further charges.
