Update:

The man arrested Wednesday in connection with the violence at Hamilton’s pride event has been denied bail.

27-year-old Christopher Vanderwiede of Kitchener-Waterloo is facing two counts of assault with a weapon.

Video from June 15th helped identify Vanderwiede as this man who appears to used a helmet to smash two pride supporters in their faces during a violent skirmish.

Police told CHCH that they had to hear from a victim before making the arrest, it’s unclear who reached out to detectives.

It’s also alleged that Vanderwiede was on-hand during an anti-Muslim rally at Toronto’s Eaton Centre last weekend. In a video a person is seen repeatedly punching someone in the stomach and using his helmet to hit another person in the head.

Vanderwiede will return to court July 4th.
