Taser debate continues in Hamilton
The taser debate will be taking centre stage at Hamilton city council again tonight.
Councillors will discuss whether or not to spend nearly one million dollars to expand the Hamilton Police Service’s taser program.
Recently, the province changed the rules to allow all front-line officers to carry tasers, but each municipality has to foot the bill itself.
Hamilton’s police chief says it will cost over $990,000 to train 580 front line officers to use the weapons.
If a decision isn’t made by December 1st, Hamilton police will miss the training cycle and will have to wait another year.
