High school cross country races

They were off and running Wednesday at the Hamilton Wentworth Public High School cross country championships at Christie Lake Conservation Area.

In the senior girls 5k race, Westdale’s Stephanie Ryall crossed the finish line first in a time of 18 minutes, 8.94 seconds,  almost 2 seconds ahead of Mary Orr of Westmount.  And then it was the senior boys.  This race covered 7k,  and Erik Heidebrcecht of Highland Secondary took first place in a time of 23 minutes, 42.22 seconds.   Nathan Dehghan and Kent Hambly of Ancaster were 2nd and 3rd respectively.   The top 3 schools in both girls and boys and top finishers advance to the SOSSA regionals.
