The Red Hill Valley Parkway is set to close for a few days in September for safety and maintenance improvements.

The parkway will be closed in both directions between Mud and Barton Street from 10 p.m. on Sept. 17, until 5 a.m. on Sept. 21, with weather permitting.

The extended weekend closure is to allow crews to complete multiple rehabilitation and maintenance at the same time.

The rehabilitation work will take place on the part of the parkway between the King Street and Greenhill Avenue interchanges, while general infrastructure maintenance will be completed along the parkway.

The planned roadwork will include removing parts of the existing road surface, adjusting the road’s slope with new asphalt layers, and paving a new asphalt surface.

The project will also include guiderail upgrades and adjustments to the overhead sign support structure, and nearby tree maintenance and vegetation removal.

Access will be maintained up to the closure points, with signed detour routes in place.

Emergency services and Hamilton Streetcar Railway services will also detour during the closure.

Details surrounding the rehabilitation project can be found on the City of Hamilton’s road closures webpage.
