Two people are dead after a multi-vehicle crash in Lambton county.
The OPP says whiteout conditions were the cause of a 30-car crash on highway 402, that stretched two kilometres. All lanes of the 402 from Mandaumin Rd to Oil Heritage Rd are now closed.
Highway 402 has also been closed at the 401 on-ramp in London. All eastbound lanes of the 401 are also closed at Oxford Road 29. The closures are expected to remain in effect for at least a few hours.
The picture above shows what it looked like on the 401 westbound earlier this morning. The OPP has advised drivers to stay off the roads in that area unless absolutely necessary.
A 96-car pileup has closed the 400 in Innisfil, just south of Barrie.
The OPP says the highway is closed in both directions between Highway 89 and Mapleview Drive.
The pileup happened after a snow squall moved into the region, causing whiteout conditions on the highway. There’s no word yet on when the 400 will reopen.
No major injuries have been reported. Highways across Southwestern Ontario have been shut down because of poor driving conditions.
