Today, Tim Horton’s field hosted the Six Nations Sports and Cultural Festival.

Phil Perkins was in the middle of the action, where native athletes worked with students to teach them their culture through sport.

Before ‘the beautiful game’ takes over Tim Horton’s field in July, students sprinted onto the field to learn about ‘the creator’s game,’ and more imporantly the people behind it at the Six Nations sport and cultural festival.

“We want to show our culture and show our great athletes and great people in our community and the positive things we do in our community and how we represent not only our community but our province and country” says pro golfer Jesse Smith.

Partnering with the Pan Am games, this event featured elite athletes from various sports to educate and instill confidence in youth. Athletes liike Cam Bomberry, who had a great career playing pro lacrosse, a game he’s passionate to share. “It comes from our native people here on Turtle Island/North America. So it’s been as long as we’ve been here.”
