Time capsule buried in Paris, Ont. to celebrate Downtown Dig progress

Mayor David Bailey, local students and Navacon Construction buried a time capsule in Paris, Ont. to celebrate the Downtown Dig nearing completion.

The installation comes as Brant County enters the final stages of the Downtown Dig (Grand River Street North phase), with completion expected in October.

The time capsule buried in Cobblestone Common captures the essence of Brant County’s community this year, including messages from local students sharing their hopes, ideas and questions for future generations.

“Thank you to all of the students who participated by sharing their hopes for the future in the time capsule,” Bailey said.

“Many years from now, I know there will be a lot of excitement when this capsule is opened and our future residents get to see what children from 2026 had to say about the community and the world they hoped to see.”

In June, the time capsule project began. Grade five and six classrooms at Paris-area schools were invited to contribute messages and questions for the future.

Their submissions showcase what young people are thinking about now and what they imagine life in Brant County may look like in the future.

A permanent sidewalk marker has been installed at Cobblestone Common to identify the location of the time capsule for future generations.
