Brantford city hall time capsule filled, sealed until 2042

The City of Brantford marked its 145th anniversary by filling a time capsule that will remain sealed until May 31, 2042.
Officials said the indoor sealable cabinet mounted in city hall’s Heritage Hall is a way to celebrate the iconic building’s history and tell future city leaders and residents what makes Brantford so special in 2022.
Items in the time capsule include artwork from young artists in Brantford who were tasked with showing what they love about the city.
Sophia Lee, 10, contributed a painting titled “Grand River in Brantford,” which depicts the river and trail. Seven-year-old Yashveer Kayal showed his love for the Brantford Public Library and the diversity, equality and inclusiveness reflected in residents of the city. Kianna Kara Angel Hess, 13, added a piece called “The Grand River,” which shows the river surrounded by the Carolinian forest.
An orange Every Child Matters t-shirt and an emblem of the Survivors’ Secretariat logo were also among the time capsule items.
A video called “My Brantford” that will launch publicly in June was added as well, featuring a number of residents talking about what makes Brantford special to them.
Other items include the May 31, 2022 edition of The Brantford Expositor, the City of Brantford 2022 calendar and the current Discover Brantford Guide.
