Everything you need to know about Milton’s 2026 municipal election

Milton residents will go to the polls to cast their votes for the town’s next mayor and other municipal officials on Oct. 26, 2026.

Advance voting will take place from Oct. 12 to Oct. 15.

More information on voting in Milton can be found on the town’s website.

The deadline to submit or withdraw nominations was Aug. 21 at 2 p.m.

Candidates are listed alphabetically by last name alongside a brief bio. This page will be updated regularly as the race develops, and individual ward candidate lists will follow the same format.

Milton’s mayoral race

Maliha K. Ahmed is the founder and CEO of Milton Muslim Moms, a grassroots organization she says she’s grown since 2015. The organization has become a network for support, advocacy and service, putting on food and toy drives for the community. Ahmed’s platform focuses on affordable and accessible public transit, affordable childcare, housing, healthcare access and more.
Nadeem Akbar comes from a professional background in infrastructure, technology and systems-level problem solving. The longtime Milton resident’s platform focuses on responsible growth, affordability, quality of life, infrastructure, public safety and more.
Abdulkareem Akbik says as mayor he wants to help make Milton a town that has it all for its residents – a place where people can live, work and enjoy life comfortably. His platform focuses on housing affordability, safer roads, strong local businesses, youth programs and more.
Sameera Ali has been the Ward 4 regional councillor since being elected in 2022. Her mayoral platform focuses on affordability, public safety, smart growth, reliable services and more.
Chéz Amun says he has dedicated more than seven years to youth mentorship – helping young people build confidence, develop life skills and work towards their goals. His platform focuses on youth and mental health, addiction and homelessness, housing, transit and more.
Zainab Azim says she has worked in academia as a researcher in developmental neuroscience and in government, working in the offices of the deputy prime minister and minister of finance. Her platform focuses on keeping jobs in Milton, transit, parks and public spaces and more.
Arjun Joshi is an urban planning student at the University of Waterloo. According to his campaign’s Instagram page, he is attempting to become the youngest mayor in Canada.
Asif Khan says he has more than 25 years of research and business experience, working with the City of Winnipeg, the City of Vancouver and the State of Oregon. His platform focuses on affordable housing, transit, community safety and more.
Gord Krantz (incumbent) has served as Milton’s mayor since being elected in 1980 after first becoming a town councillor in 1965. Krantz is Canada’s longest-serving politician.
George Minakakis was voted in as a town councillor in the 2025 Ward 1 byelection. His platform focuses on creating economic opportunity, budget accountability, public safety and sustainable development.
