Police charge St. Catharines high school teacher with sexual assault

A 46-year-old high school teacher in St. Catharines has been charged with sexual assault.
Niagara police responded to Governor Simcoe Secondary School for reports of an alleged sexual assault involving a teacher in January.
The District School Board of Niagara told investigators that a teacher inappropriately touched a student at the school.
Officers say the school board immediately suspended the teacher, pending the results of the investigation.

David Michael Cockburn of St. Catharines was arrested on April 13 and charged with sexual assault and sexual exploitation.
Police say the charges relate to one victim, however, there may be more victims.
Cockburn is scheduled for a bail hearing on April 14 at a St. Catharines courthouse.
