TORONTO — Police just west of Toronto say there’s no threat to public safety after officers responded late Monday to a dangerous weapons call at a dormitory on the University of Toronto’s Mississauga campus.

The school issued a shelter-in-place order for students near McLuhan Court residence, a complex that houses hundreds of first-year students.

Peel Regional Police, describing the matter on social media as a dangerous weapons call, has urged the public to keep away from the area.

Investigators said the situation was contained to a single residential unit and there had been no reports of physical injuries.

In an update early Tuesday, police said the matter had been resolved and officers would remain on scene overnight.

Images from the scene showed police vehicles blocking roadways near the dormitory and officers directing traffic.

“Further information will be provided as it becomes available,” Peel Police said in a social media post.

In an updated alert, the school said some areas remain cordoned off at the residence.

The alert also said mental health and counselling supports are available for those impacted.

A spokesperson for Peel Regional Paramedic Services said Monday night that police had asked them to stage nearby. The official noted that paramedics had not taken any patients to hospital.
