Here’s what’s open and closed in our region for Victoria Day

Here is a look at what is open, closed, and what’s happening in our region for Victoria Day (May 19).

Open

The Royal Botanical Gardens will be open on Monday. While admission is not needed to visit the Arboretum, a reservation and parking fees can still apply.

The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The African Lion Safari will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Many Beer Stores will be open, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., with some exceptions.

Businesses at The Outlet Collection at Niagara-on-the-Lake will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Closed

Government offices and libraries will be closed, and all City of Hamilton administrative offices will be closed too.

The Hamilton Municipal Parking System Office will be closed, with no enforcement from Sunday at 5:45 a.m. until Monday at 10 p.m.

The city warns that “proactive enforcement may occur for special events and areas of interest.”

Banks will also be closed Monday.

The Canada Post will not be making any deliveries or collections Monday, and offices will also be closed.

LCBO locations will also be closed.

Many malls including Eastgate, CF Lime Ridge, Burlington Centre, Mapleview and The Centre on Barton will be closed.

The Art Gallery of Hamilton and Hamilton Civic Museums will be closed.

Most major grocery stores will be closed, although convenience stores and some stores may keep their doors open.

Service changes and fireworks

City buses in Hamilton, Halton, Niagara Falls and St. Catharines will be running on a Sunday/Holiday schedule.

DARTS will be running on holiday service

GO Transit will also be running on a Sunday schedule.

Garbage and waste collection in Hamilton that fall on Monday will happen instead on Tuesday. Community Recycling Centres are closed.

Spray pads in public parks are scheduled to be open for the long weekend, they will be usable from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Fireworks are planned to be launched at Dundas Driving Park at around 9:30 p.m., with programming to begin at around 4 p.m.

Admission to 71 Cross St, in Dundas is free, with cash donations encouraged at the gate to support the Rotary Club.

Some of the programming set for the day include a music festival, an artisan market, food trucks, and glow sticks available for purchase.

Parking onsite will be limited, so visitors are encouraged to park at one of the free Dundas Municipal paring lots nearby.
