Hamilton police have shutdown two businesses they say were illegally selling psilocybin, also known as “magic mushrooms”, as of Friday.
Officers say that with cooperation from landlords the locks have been changed on “the Mushroom Cabinet” and “Shroomyz” and signage has been installed by police indicating that any entry could result in Break and Enter or other applicable charges.
A search warrant executed at The Mushroom Cabinet led to the recovery of 1.3 kilograms of dried psilocybin, 660 capsules, 30 chocolate bars and 25 chocolate squares all containing the drug, which led to a 35-year-old man facing charges of possession and proceeds of crime under $5,000.

From a search warrant executed at Shroomyz, police were able to recover 404 packages of dried psilocybin, 308 chocolate bars containing the drug, 713 bottles containing over 14,000 capsules, 19 jars of psilocybin butter and 228 packages of gummies. Overall, over 8 kilograms worth of the illicit drug were seized.

In total, investigators have seized 9.71 kilograms of dried psilocybin at a street value of $97,100.
Police say a third store, Shroom Godz, opened Thursday directly across the street from the former location of The Mushroom Cabinet. Officers informed the owner of the new business of the recent measures taken against the other businesses in the area and they chose to close operations.
Hamilton police are reminding the public that the drug is still considered to be a restricted substance and is illegal to sell or possess at this time.
