Hamilton police arrest 16-year-old for series of alleged carjackings

Hamilton police have arrested a 16-year-old boy they say is involved in a series of armed carjackings within the first week of August.

Officers referenced four incidents they believe the same boy is responsible for.

The first carjacking is alleged to have happened on Aug. 3. A person was robbed of a vehicle they were trying to sell at gunpoint.

Police say the second theft happened in the same evening. Investigators allege a man was at his home when the 16-year-old pointed a gun at him and threatened to shoot but the victim was able to flee safely.

The third reported robbery also happened in the same evening and the victim had their vehicle stolen at gun point. Police were able to recover the vehicle shortly after.

The fourth carjacking happened on Tuesday, Aug. 5 in central Hamilton. The boy allegedly stole this vehicle with a gun as well. Police were able to follow the stolen vehicle and arrest the 16-year-old.

Hamilton police are holding the boy for bail and have charged him with 5 counts of breaching youth probation, 4 counts of possession contrary to order and 3 counts of robbery with a firearm, among other robbery and carjacking related charges.
