OPP laid over 1,000 speeding charges in Labour Day traffic campaign

Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) West Region laid over a thousand speeding charges during this year’s Labour Day traffic campaign.

The campaign targeted aggressive driving, the failure to wear a seatbelt, distracted driving and impaired driving.

OPP says these remain the leading contributing factors to death, injury and property damage on Ontario roads and highways.

Between Friday and Monday, officers conducted 2,330 traffic stops and laid 2,142 total charges.

Speeding was the most common charge laid with 1,004 charges.

Some of the other charges laid include 37 stunt driving charges, 172 seatbelt charges, 11 distracted driving charges and 52 impaired driving charges.
