Hamilton boy dies in early morning rollover on QEW, father critically injured

A 9-year-old Hamilton boy has died following an early morning truck rollover on the QEW in which his father fell asleep at the wheel.
Police say the 38-year-old fell asleep near the Burloak Drive exit in Oakville after driving a long distance.
The truck entered a nearby ditch and rolled over before coming to rest upright.
The boy was ejected from the vehicle and was transported to an area hospital without vital signs. The driver was sent to hospital where he remains with serious injuries.
The boy’s 28-year-old uncle, who was the other passenger, was not injured and remained at the scene.
OPP constable Timothy Dunnah says he believes no one was wearing a seat belt. This is being investigated as a contributing factor in the crash.
Airbags were set off in the front seat and the OPP reported that an off-duty nurse who witnessed the crash assisted with CPR along with emergency officials.
Westbound lanes on the QEW at Bronte Road were closed throughout the night and re-opened after 6 a.m. The pickup truck was towed from the scene.
The police collision reconstruction unit is investigating. Anyone who witnessed the incident or may have dashcam footage is asked to contact the OPP Burlington detachment at (905) 681-2511.
