Former Hamilton, Sault Ste. Marie residents brace for L.A. wildfires

Laura Cole, a singer-songwriter from Hamilton now living in Los Angeles, says she’s packing up just to be safe. Laura Cole is in an area outside where the fires are raging, but she is on high alert with a nine-month-old baby at home.
While the fires are not in her neighborhood, the air quality index was off the charts, making breathing hard.
With Laura Cole and her family on high alert, about 20 minutes away in Sherman Oaks, residents are in the “red zone,” meaning they could be evacuated from their homes at any moment. Many are keeping up-to-date on the latest evacuation and fire warnings through an app called ‘Watch Duty.’ It sends alerts to users, warning of imminent danger.
Former Sault Ste. Marie resident Nancy Greco is now in the “red zone” until Wednesday at 6 p.m., meaning she needs to be ready to leave her home at any time.
In sharp contrast to a few days ago there were bright skies on Sunday, but imminent danger remain. Greco is making plans to leave and is worried about the safety of her dog.
Both Laura Cole and Nancy Greco remain on alert, as plans can change at any moment.
