Damage believed to be in the millions after fire at Stoney Creek seniors’ apartment building

Officials are investigating the cause of a multiple-alarm fire at a Stoney Creek seniors’ apartment building.
Hamilton firefighters were called to a structure fire at 110 Stoney Brook Dr. around 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
Crews reported heavy smoke and flames visible from the upper floor of the three-storey building when they arrived.

Firefighters worked with Hamilton police officers to help residents get out of safely. The building is part of a two-building complex with about 30 apartment units in each.
Fire officials say there were over 50 firefighters on scene, along with three aerial ladders. The fire was under control within 30-40 minutes.
They say the building sustained significant damage, including a partial roof collapse. 18 of the 30 units have been damaged and about two dozen residents have been put up in a local hotel.
The Ontario Fire Marshal has been notified. Fire officials say they don’t know the exact damage estimate but it is believed to be in the millions.
There were no reports of any injuries.
