Hamilton staffer with ties to white supremacy no longer works for city

The city of Hamilton and an IT worker with ties to white supremacy have “mutually agreed” to end the staffer’s employment.

The city launched an investigation back in May after Vice News published a story stating Marc Lemire was a former leader of one of Canada’s most infamous neo-Nazi groups and was currently employed by the City of Hamilton.

Lemire has denied being a neo-Nazi the claims made by Vice News. In an email to CHCH News, he previously said, “I am not and have not been the president or the last known leader of the Heritage Front. To be clear: I reject what they stand for. Period.”

In a statement released Friday morning, the city says the decision was made to end Lemire’s employment following two investigations into his workplace activities. “Following these investigations, the City made a decision that Mr. Lemire’s off-duty activities and associations did not reflect the culture, values, and beliefs of the City,” it said.

Officials say there was no evidence that Lemire inappropriately accessed, utilized or gathered any data, including City emails or private information, or that he inappropriately used any City equipment.

“While we can certainly appreciate the public’s interest in this matter, as this is an employee matter, we will not be able to comment further on the details of the end of our employment relationship,” it added.

The city did not say if Lemire retired, quit, was terminated or received a package.
