A Caledonia resident has been scammed out of over $30,000 provincial police say.

OPP say the victim began a correspondence with an unknown person back in June.

The scammer told the victim they needed money to travel out of the country to collect an inheritance. They also said they needed medication for their sick child.

The victim was told they would get back double the amount borrowed.

According to police, over $30,000 was transferred before a bank employee spoke to the victim and told them they were likely being scammed.

No further funds were sent.

The victim reported the incident to police last week.

OPP is reminding the public to never give out any personal information or money to people you don’t know.
