The man who led the Toronto Blue Jays to the playoffs for the first time in 22 years is leaving the team.

General manager Alex Anthopoulos has rejected a five-year contract extension, saying he didn’t feel it was the “right fit” going forward. He insisted he was treated well in the negotiations by both the club and incoming president Mark Shapiro, who replaces retiring president Paul Beeston next week.

Today’s news comes during the World Series, a time when Major League Baseball usually likes to keep the focus on the field.

CHCH’s Phil Perkins will have more on Anthopoulos’ departure tonight on the Evening News at 6.
