Mac hosts quidditch tourney

A quidditch tournament was held at McMaster University this afternoon.

If you’re not familiar with the sport, it’s inspired by the game played in the Harry Potter book series. Students must hold on to a broom while trying to score against the other team. Player Jessica Donat explains a little more.

“Quidditch is a combination of european handball and dodgeball. There are 7 people on a field at one time for each team. You have 2 beaters that is the dodgeball aspect of it. So they are beating players with the dodgeballs and if you get beat you have to go back to your hoops.”

“Then you have three chasers and they’re scoring. You have the keepers who protect the hoops and a sneeker who catches the snitch.”

“It’s based on the Harry Potter books but we brought it to life. If you notice there are similar aspects like the brooms but it’s very different and very competitive and full contact.”
