Police are investigating after a Hamilton Mountain parent reported finding sewing needles in candy their child collected while trick-or-treating on Halloween.

Officers say they responded to a home near Upper Ottawa Street and Mohawk Road on Monday.

The affected candy includes Aero, KitKat and Caramilk, according to investigators.

The candy is believed to have been collected along Limeridge Road, between Upper Ottawa Street and Upper Kenilworth Avenue.

Detectives are urging parents and caregivers to look through all Halloween candy before any children eat it.

If any candy is found to have been tampered with, police are urging people to not consume or discard it but to contact police instead and save the candy for their investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact 905-546-3886.
