Hamilton’s Police and Fire Department say their phone system went down Sunday morning.

At about midnight, the Hamilton Fire Department stopped receiving emergency phone calls.

Firefighters and police turned to radio communications to receive calls and dispatch crews.

Less than 3 hours later, the 911 Call Centre went down. Under a backup plan, 911 calls were answered by Halton Police.

Everything was up and running by 5:30 Sunday morning.

It’s still not clear what caused the phone lines to go down.
