A McMaster University researcher is using new insights into bat behaviour to help change how people view these animals.

Shane Seheult, PhD candidate in psychology, neuroscience and behaviour, studies how bats process sound, including how baby bats develop hearing in their early days of life.

The university says Seheult’s research could provide new insights into auditory development and help scientists better understand mammals.

He is also exploring non-invasive ways to identify bats using unique wing patterns.

With seven of Ontario’s eight bat species endangered, Seheult is also raising awareness through conservation research and public events.
