Man killed in fatal crash identified

Messages of condolences are pouring in on social media Friday night for family and friends of the man killed in Thursday’s three car collision on Trinity Road in Ancaster. 30-year-old Chris Petrou died driving to work around 6 o’clock in the morning. Melissa Raftis spoke to his brother Friday who says Chris would have done anything for the people he loved.

Nick Petrou: “He loved his family he was a huge family guy, and his friends were all his family and I’m going to miss him a lot. I loved my little brother.”

Nick Petrou is a Bronco’s fan, but on this day, he’s wearing a Raiders jersey in honour of his brother Chris Petrou. Chris loved football. The Raiders and Ticats were his favourite teams.

Nick: “We were just at the Argos game on Sunday cheering for the Tiger-Cats, both of us. It was a great memory to go out with, I hope they win the Grey Cup for him.”

Chris also played the game, and recently made a championship winning catch.

Nick: “He explained it to me how he had to dive. ‘I saw it, I went for it. I knew I was going to go for it. I made the catch’ and everybody remembers him for it.”

His team sent us this collage with a message that reads in part.

“Our Family is lost, upset and still trying to fill the void of a brother lost. Chris was a passionate, down to earth and genuine person who was always there for his brotherhood.”

Chris was driving to work from his Caledonia home when he was killed in a three-car crash around 6am on Trinity Road. Another driver, 57-year old Daniel Ebeyer, remains in hospital in critical but stable condition. A 32-year-old woman was treated for minor injuries and has since been released.

For Petrou’s family and friends, it’s a difficult reality to accept that they’ve lost someone who his brother says was everybody’s best friend. A man who was always smiling. A happy man who loved life.

Nick: “He’s just a hard working kid who just did everything right and he shouldn’t be gone too soon like this. And he was loved by so many people. He’ll be missed by so many people.”

It’s apparent just how loved Chris is by the number of emails we’ve received from his family and friends sending us photos and sharing memories Friday. One of his Aunts say the family is heartbroken at the loss of a loving, kind and gentle soul.
