Nearly four months after the collapse of the Algo Centre mall in Elliot Lake residents are still struggling to move on from the tragedy.
Along with the stores that were lost in the collapse, one of the town’s grocery stores was also destroyed leaving only one store to supply residents with their necessities.
As a result, many of the townspeople say they’re having trouble buying many different items, because the store cannot keep up with demand. Some people are even driving two hours to Sudbury to buy items.
However, a new Foodland is set to open October 19th in a smaller venue than the one that was lost, but it’s hoped the new store will help alleviate some of the pressures and be able to keep shelves stocked.
The mall collapsed last June killing two people and injuring more than 20 others.
