Dofasco accused of sweetheart deal

Environment Hamilton is accusing Arcelor-Mittal Dofasco of having a sweetheart deal on pollution emissions with the ministry of environment.

This from an e-mail exchange between the two agencies. The steelmaker has already pleaded guilty and paid a fine of $390,000 for infractions in 2012. When asked if they will be investigating the more recent complaints, the ministry stated the original guilty plea resolves these matters.

A spokesperson for Ancellor-Mittal says they stand by their agreement with the ministry to spend $87 million to reduce coke oven emissions.
