Ontario reports 1,631 COVID-19 cases and 10 deaths

Ontario reported 1,631 cases of COVID-19 and ten deaths as the stay-at-home order has been lifted for the entire province.

The results come on 38,063 tests and puts the reported positivity rate, which takes into account the date tests were taken, at 3.4 per cent.

But a spokesperson from the Ministry of Health says the daily case count is higher than expected due to “a data catch-up process related to the provincial CCM system.”

Another 994 cases have been marked as resolved.

The province says 21,882 vaccine doses have been administered since the last report. In total, 912,486 doses have been given.

There are 273,676 people in the province who have received both required doses.

  • 10,831 total cases — up 30 from Sunday
  • 9,959 resolved cases
  • 409 active cases
  • 53 in hospital
  • 287 deaths
  • 46,342 vaccine doses given

Outbreaks have been declared at: Scharringa Greenhouses, where there are three confirmed staff cases and Supercuts on Dundas St. E in Waterdown, where there are two staff and two patron cases.

Halton

  • 9,780 total cases — up 34 from Sunday
  • 9,308 resolved cases
  • 274 active cases
  • 11 in hospital
  • 198 deaths
  • 138 total variant cases

Niagara

  • 8,764 total cases — up 20 from Sunday
  • 8,186 resolved cases
  • 209 active cases
  • 12 in hospital
  • 369 deaths
  • 11,828 vaccine doses given

Brant

  • 1,528 total cases — up eight from Sunday
  • 1,474 resolved cases
  • 42 active cases
  • 12 deaths
  • 2 in hospital
  • 10,258 vaccine doses given; 2,548 people fully vaccinated

Haldimand-Norfolk

  • 1,464 total cases — up five from Sunday
  • 1,383 resolved cases
  • 37 active cases
  • 39 deaths
  • 9,490 vaccine doses given; 1,580 people fully vaccinated

There are now 879 cases of the B.1.1.7 lineage of the virus, first reported in the U.K. and 39 cases of the B.1.351 strain first reported in South Africa.

The number of cases of the P.1 strain, first reported in Brazil, is now 17.

The death toll is now 7,077 people.

There are 626 patients hospitalized with COVID-19. There are 282 in ICU and 184 of them are on ventilators.
