Will all maps show Lake Ontario as ‘Lake America’ after Trump’s executive order?

Late last week, President Donald Trump signed an executive order renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America in the U.S.

So will all maps — including in Canada — now read Lake America instead?

The short answer: no.

And the reason? The U.S. follows its own naming authority: the Geographic Names Information System.

Trump’s executive order extends to U.S. government organizations. While the rest of the world—including U.S.-based private business—don’t have to adhere to this naming system.
