Pacifiers and breastfeeding

New moms are often told to avoid using pacifiers on breastfeeding babies — but a new study is now casting doubt.

Any pediatricians discourage pacifiers as babies learn to breast feed to avoid confusion.

However, when pacifiers were banned at an Oregon hospital, the number of exclusively breast fed babies declined by over 10%.

A doctor involved in the study says this suggests removing pacifiers may actually have a negative impact on breastfeeding.
