New research finds overweight teens are having a tough time controlling their diabetes.

The U.S. study tested several ways to manage blood sugar in about 700 teens newly diagnosed with the disease.

Researchers found nearly half of them failed within a few years, and one-in-five suffered serious complications.

In Canada, more than three million people have some form of diabetes.

We also have the sixth highest rate of type-one diabetes in children under 15 in the world.
