Marineland says the last captive orca in Canada died Thursday at the Niagara Falls-based tourist attraction.
The theme park announced Friday that Kiska passed away “peacefully” at age 47.
A necropsy has taken place and Kiska, who has lived at the park since 1979, has been buried.
Marineland told CHCH News that a cause of death has not been confirmed at this time.
Animal Justice, a national animal law organization, is renewing its call for Marineland to be investigated and prosecuted following the death of Kiska, who the activists call the “loneliest orca in the world.”

The last two walruses at Marineland, as well as a third from an aquarium in Quebec, were moved to a new marine park in Abu Dhabi on March 3.
The three were Canada’s last remaining captive walruses.
The Quebec City aquarium says its walrus, Boris, arrived in Abu Dhabi alongside Smooshi and her baby, Koyuk, from Marineland in Niagara Falls.
The tourist attraction also registered in January to lobby the Ontario government with the intent of rezoning the site and selling the park.
