Hamilton Police report high-end vehicle thefts overnight in the city, with Waterdown and Ancaster being impacted the most.

Police say the suspects are stealing the vehicles overnight where there are few to no people out.

The high target vehicles include Ford F-150, Dodge Durango, various Toyota, Jeep, Honda, and Lexus models – all primarily manufactured between 2016 to 2022.

Police say vehicles are stolen for several reasons. Thieves often steal vehicles to sell parts outside of the province or country, they could also use it to get somewhere and later abandon the vehicle, or for vehicle cloning.

To reduce the risk of vehicle theft, police recommend to park in a well-lit area if possible, lock all valuables in the trunk, and to turn the wheels to the side to make it harder to tow.

Hamilton police also added to always set the emergency break and use the garage if available.

The crime trend is also happening in neighbouring jurisdictions – as a result, auto theft detectives are leading an ongoing joint investigation.
