What’s open and closed on Canada Day in Hamilton and area

Canada Day is a day to celebrate all things Canadian and it happens to fall on a Tuesday this year, which means weekday changes to municipal services, including transit.
There will be no garbage curbside pick-up in Hamilton and other cities and collection will shift forward by one day for the rest of the week. Recycling centres will re-open on Wednesday.
Hamilton Street Railway buses will run on a holiday schedule and MyRide Waterdown will not operate. DARTS service for the disabled and elderly will operate on a holiday schedule and all subscription trips are cancelled except for dialysis, which must be booked.
City recreation centres and arenas will be closed as will library branches and civic museums, apart for Dundurn Castle which will host a military tattoo at 5 p.m. Hamilton Farmers’ Market will also be closed.
Admin offices for bylaw, animal services, housing, transit and municipal services are closed and will re-open on Wednesday. Check your municipality’s website to confirm closures and hours of operation for limited services.
Being a federal statutory holiday, federal and provincial government offices will close for the day, including Service Canada locations, passport offices and provincial ministries. Canada Post offices will be closed and there will be no mail delivery on Tuesday.
In-person banking will be closed as will most shopping malls. Some pharmacy locations will remain open and food stores will operate on a location-specific basis or have limited hours. LCBO stores are closed. Cold beer is possible to purchase on Canada Day with 104 of The Beer Stores open from 11 a.m. to 5p.m. or 6 p.m.
Cineplex and Landmark movie theatres will be open for those who want to cool down in front of the ‘big screen’.
