Hamilton police investigate suspicious Waterdown death

Hamilton police are asking for the public’s help as they investigate the suspicious death of a 54-year-old man who was found in Waterdown earlier this week.

On Monday at around 6:22 p.m., the man was found unresponsive on the sidewalk near Dundas Street East and First Street.

Officers say the man was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators say based on the circumstances known at the time, the death was not considered suspicious.

However, detectives reviewed video footage, spoke with witnesses and received additional information, including findings from a post-mortem examination.

As the investigation progressed, police found information that raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

The death is now being investigated as suspicious and the Hamilton Police Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation.

Officers say at this time, the death has not been classified as a homicide.

Detectives are asking anyone who was in the area of Dundas Street East between Spring Creek Drive and First Street from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Monday and may have witnessed anything that could assist the investigation, to come forward.

Police are also asking residents, businesses and motorists in the area to review security, doorbell and dash camera footage from that timeframe.
