The Easter long weekend has begun, with Christians marking Good Friday around the world and Easter celebrations getting underway here in Hamilton.
It coincides with some really warm weather in our area and people were taking advantage of that sunshine with activities like Easter egg hunting, or just enjoying a walk in the park.
It was quite windy out but with the temperatures we saw Friday, it was no big deal.
Hundreds of kids were hunting for Easter eggs in local parks while others just soaked up the sun.
The ice cream truck at Bayfront Park in Hamilton had a line as spring fills the air.
“Great day for it, we cancelled all of our plans just to come to Bayfront,” says one visitor.
The heavy wind – with gusts earlier today topping 65 kilometres per hour – didn’t stop people from sitting by the water or taking a ride on a scooter or a bike.
The windy warm weather was just fine for hundreds of kids searching for Easter eggs at events like the annual Binbrook Easter Egg Hunt.
The Waterdown Lions club also hosted their traditional free Easter egg hunt at Memorial Park.
“We’ve been really lucky, in the last four years we haven’t had a rain out,” says Andrew Haggert, President of the Waterdown Lions Club.
Parents and kids looked for free chocolate and candy and were encouraged to give back themselves.
“We also have the food bank here. Both the Flamborough and Waterdown food banks,” says Haggert. “We have donations from anyone that comes, they usually have something to give, and there’s an opportunity to buy a bag of groceries as well.”
