The Hamilton Tiger-Cats delivered a Thanksgiving day win Monday in front of a home crowd in Guelph. And with the win, the team has now won seven of its last ten games, making it one of the hottest teams in the league.
Elise Copps was gauging fan reaction to the team’s fortunes and has a report on what the fans have to say about the teams fortunes.
Ticats fans are feeling very optimistic. They’re always a dedicated bunch, so it’s no surprise many of them can see their team going all the way to the Grey Cup this year. We’ve still got three regular season games before the playoffs start, so it will be a while before we learn whether or not that’s a realistic goal.
One thing’s for sure, it was a long bus ride home for Argonauts fans. The win cinched the season-series for the Cats against their rivals down the 403. And Ticats were happy to celebrate. They were also happy to donate. Fans brought in a CFL record setting number of canned goods for the “Purolator Tackle Hunger” effort; a whopping 220,500 pounds.
And there was more to celebrate. This win puts them within two points of Toronto for first place in the Eastern Conference. The rivalry between the two teams has been heated for years and without Ivor Wynne Stadium as home base, some worried this season would be a muted one for the rivalry. But the Cats are proving otherwise on the field, and some fans think Alumni Stadium in Guelph may even be acting as a good luck charm.
“It’s like they’re better out here. They haven’t won for a decade at home, they come out here they start winning. Maybe we should become the Guelph Ticats.”
“I’m hoping they go all the way. And there’s no reason they can’t.”
“I think we’ve got a real good chance to represent the east and go all the way.”
The Ticats will be back at home on October 26th for the final game in their series against Montreal.
