Temporary crosswalk to be installed at West Niagara Secondary School

The Niagara Region has announced it will be installing a temporary crosswalk in the area of West Niagara Secondary School amidst rising concerns over pedestrian safety.

A pedestrian count was conducted last month in response to an increase in vehicle and pedestrian traffic near the school on King Street in Lincoln.

Officials say the results have led them to move forward with the installation of a temporary crosswalk, with the installation being expedited by the Region.

Additionally, parking will be prohibited on the north and south sides of King Street in front of the school to deter vehicles from stopping on the shoulder to drop off students.

Further, the region says it will now be considering the addition of a permanent crosswalk as part of a planned reconstruction project on King Street between the school and Cabernet Street.

Concerns first arose in September following the schools opening due to a lack of designated crosswalks near the building, sparking the region to conduct the original pedestrian count to assess what safety measures would need to be taken.
