Stolen WWII medals returned

There is a happy ending to the story of war medals that were stolen more than 20 years ago. Tonight the WWII medals have been returned to the family they belonged to – and you won’t believe how the medals were found.
At an east Hamilton bus stop at the corner of Barton and Nash last Thursday, Tamara Beven found a piece of Canadian military history. “I went over to the bus stop to catch the Barton bus, and I just went over to the bus stop to see the medals sitting on the bench.” Since then she’s been on a mission to get them back to their rightful owner.
She plastered pictures of the medals on Facebook and the post took off. A colleague of Geoff Coombs told him about it and he reached out to Tamara.
“To have all this, and have it come back to me, at this time especially, is really special. I can’t thank Tamara Beven enough for finding it and putting it on Facebook.”
Some of the medals belonged to his grandfather Harry Coombs. But Geoff got another surprise. “This is my family history here that I wasn’t even aware of. Not only is it my grandfathers medals, 2 are my great grandfathers .”
The medals were stolen from his aunts house more than 20 years ago. It means a lot to Geoff to get them back right before Remembrance Day.
