Stabbing suspect son of police officer

Police in Calgary have confirmed that the suspect in the deaths of five young people is the son of a senior officer with the force.

Calgary Police chief Rick Hanson says the suspect is also a student at the University of Calgary and was an invited guest at the party where the stabbing occurred.

Five people — four young men and a woman — died in the attack. The suspect is in hospital and is being treated for dog bites after being tracked by the police canine unit.

First-degree murder charges are pending. The name of the suspect will be released after they are laid.
