Mourners gather for Jim Flaherty’s funeral

The funeral for former finance minister Jim Flaherty is being held in downtown Toronto this afternoon.

Security is tight around St. James Cathedral. The long list of dignitaries set to attend include Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Governor General David Johnston.

People were seen holding Canadian flags outside the church. There were also some autograph hunters, including a man with a copy of Pierre Trudeau’s memoirs who was hoping to get it signed by Liberal leader Justin Trudeau.

Flaherty died last week at the age of 64. He had retired from cabinet just three weeks prior.
