The Special Investigation Unit has been called to examine an early morning shooting in Burlington.

They say Halton police received a call of a “suspicious man” inside the bathroom at an Esso gas bar at 875 Appleby Line in Burlington near Harvester Road, just south of the QEW.

It happened around 5 a.m. Saturday morning.

A spokesperson from the SIU said gunfire was exchanged between four Halton police officers, one OPP officer and the man.

The SIU said the man, who is 32-years-old, was shot and pronounced dead at the scene. His identity will not be released until next-of-kin is notified.

Halton police confirm two of their officers were injured and are being treated in hospital. They are expected to survive.

Several investigators remain at the scene to collect evidence including video surveillance.
