A security guard is in stable condition after being shot during a robbery at a shopping mall in Toronto Tuesday morning.
It happened at around 10:05 a.m. just as the Fairview Mall, near Sheppard Avenue East and Don Mills Road, was about to open.
Toronto police report a man had entered a jewelry store and stole a quantity of merchandise.
They say the suspect had confronted a member of the mall’s security team and shot him.
The guard was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition.
Detectives say the man had fled the area in a white van, travelling southbound on Don Mills Road.
Police say the van was later recovered in the area of Shaughnessy and George Henry boulevards.
Investigators believe the suspect then left that area in a black Honda Accord.
Officers are looking for 53-year-old Kyle Douglas Prouse of Montreal, who they describe as a white man, wearing a grey hoodie, grey pants, a blue baseball cap, a white medical mask and black shoes.
Investigators say there were flecks of white paint on his clothing.
Police believe Prouse has ties to Toronto and Vancouver, and is also wanted in connection with a break and enter investigation in the Durham Region in August of 2023.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
